 About the ARA The Austin Revitalization Authority (ARA) is the Central East Austin community working to restore the cultural and economic viability of our neighborhoods. We are a private, non-profit community development corporation whose board of directors mirrors our community. The mission of the Austin Revitalization Authority is to respect the people, institutions, cultures and history of East Austin; restore a sense of hope and pride in the East End community; and revitalize the area’s commercial, residential and social components in a manner that promotes diversity, stability and prosperity. Our vision for the East End is that it will once again be a vibrant community comprised of safe and attractive neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and quality educational institutions; with a cultural, racial and economic diversity that respects the area’s heritage. ARA’s values guide how the organization will operate to achieve its vision and mission. These values are: • maintaining the historic and cultural character of the East End community; • promoting positive working partnerships; • facilitating partnerships; • maximizing the participation of small and minority-owned businesses; • preserving the integrity of neighborhoods; • enabling the self-sufficiency of the East End community; and, • being a good neighborhood citizen. Through ARA, the community developed the Central East Austin Master Plan and the E.11th and 12th Streets Community Redevelopment Plan which guides development of the area bounded by I-35, Airport Blvd, E. 7th Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. While our initial funding came from the City of Austin, we have worked to catalyze that funding with additional investments from private developers and others wishing to facilitate change. ARA’s current projects will develop more than 100,000 SF of retail and commercial space and over 100 homes. Back to the top |
