Frequently Asked Questions
I have a business that I would like to start in/expand in/move to the ARA’s redevelopment area. What can the ARA do for me?

For those interested in locating or expanding their business in our redevelopment area ARA can assist by:

  • helping you to apply for a HUD Section 108 Loan Guarantee if your project qualifies;
  • contacting property owners and neighborhood groups that you may wish to discuss your project with;
  • if you are interested in a location in Eleven East our mixed-use development on E. 11th Street, giving you information regarding availability and lease/purchase options;
  • orienting you to the Community Redevelopment Plan (CRP) which details allowed uses and the kind of services the community would like to have in the area;
  • providing technical assistance regarding the development process; and
  • guiding you to other sources of financing and if necessary assisting you in applying for them.

The more we know about your business needs the easier it is for us to assist you. If you would like to further explore ways ARA can support you in your business venture please fill out our Statement of Interest document.

I am interested in buying a house in ARA’s redevelopment area. Can you help me?

If you are interested in purchasing one of the live/work lofts that the ARA is constructing as part of Legacy Estates, its residential development, we can give you more information regarding the design, availability, and cost of the units. Please call Commerce Austin Realty at (512) 457-0993 as soon as possible as space is limited.

Commerce Austin Realty can also assist you if you are interested in purchasing one of ARA's affordable homes. These homes are restricted to first-time homebuyers who are at or below 80% of Travis County's median family income (not more than $39,800 for a single person household; not more than $56,900 for a household of four). If you qualify for affordable housing you may also wish to contact the Austin Housing Finance Corporation regarding their Anderson Hill neighborhood development which will bring new thirty-one (31) units of affordable housing to our area. Call AHFC's Marni Pengelly at (512) 974-3176 for more information.

If you are interested in simply purchasing a house in this area you should contact a real estate agent that is familiar with Central East Austin or contact the property owner directly.

Where can I get a copy of the Central East Austin Master Plan (CEAMP) or the Community Redevelopment Plan (CRP)?

You may review a copy of the CEAMP and CRP here at the ARA office. Copies of the CEAMP and CRP can also be found at the Carver Library and the Central Public Library and are available from the office of Neighborhood Housing and Community Development.
